As an engineer, I can choose my editor. Everyone on the team can be using different ones. Many use vscode, or maybe atom, or Nova. Some of the fastest most insane engineers I know still use vim and swear by it’s ability to move at the speed of your mind if you spend the time to learn it.

As a designer, I cannot. In order to collaborate, we must all be using the same one. What market forces would created the open formats required for this to happen? Likely none will ever exist. For both the file format and the collaboration side.
