One optimistic view of the last few frustrating years is that it has shown a great light on the need for us to redesign our societal institutions. They are lacking both in terms of their ability to solve the new problems we are experiencing today, as well as their slow degradation and rust from lack of care throughout the years. I hope that it has turned some of our brightest minds (many who have never thought of “institutions” before) to the hard and arduous task of reinventing and improvement them. The realization that the institutions around us aren’t infallible and were created by people just like us leads to a wonderful conclusion. You can re-create these artifacts and improve upon them.
